Answers to common alarm monitoring questions

How often do you test my alarm system?

Testing and Inspections are required to be performed Annually- once a year, per NFPA 72 We will go through your building and test all of your smoke detectors, pull stations, Horns, Strobes, and any other equipment you have that is tied into your fire alarm system.  We make sure that it is all functioning properly, so you can feel better knowing it will work when and if it is needed.

Why do I need to have my system monitored?

Monitoring is required by NFPA 72 and is very important to have.  It is your first response to get the fire department on the way in case of a fire, Carbon Monoxide leak, ect. It allows occupants to focus on evacuation and getting themselves to safety.  It also notifies the owner or management when there is an issue with the fire alarm system.

How does the monitoring work?

The fire alarm panel transmits a code to a certified central station, the operators at the central station notifies the Fire department, and the building owner.  It takes less than 90 seconds to dispatch the fire department.  If the panel just has a problem condition or trouble then it will notify the building owner, management, and the alarm company to let them know that there is a problem.

Do I need phone lines?

No, phone lines are not required, technology has changed, while phone lines can still be used, we recommend and install a cellular communicator.  It has been proven to be more reliable and it eliminates coordination between the phone company and our technicians if and when there is a problem.
